Alex Porter - Art

Hello!

My name is Mr. Porter and I am thrilled to be teaching Art this year! 

I am originally from a small town in upstate New York in the Finger Lakes region.

My goal this year is for students to understand that the arts are here for everyone.

Not every person will become a professional artist, but everyone should understand how visual art is made and just how much work people put into artwork.

Students will learn:

• the tools and techniques that needed to make visual art

• that context is very important in understanding art history

• how to talk the elements of art and with confidence.

The arts have given us movies, stories, fashions, architecture, and snapshots of life through human history. 

Art creates beauty in people's everyday lives.

Art helps people work through sadness, pain, or troubles.

Art creates joy.

I hope that I can share my appreciation and love of visual arts with students this year so that they can understand just how powerful and impactful art can be in the world.
